THE TALENTED SINGERS OF TOMORROW
BY ZONDI KHOLOLWETHU
Every year, a certain group of learners are taken to a singing competition whereby they compete with other schools to determine the best amongst the rest. This year, a group of grade 2,3 and 4 learners took part in the first round. This year’s 2023 ABC Motsepe SASCE first round which was the district level at Thohoyandou(Manini CWC)
- Grade R-2 infant – Holy Rosary took grade 2, sung two songs.
- Vhana vha funa xikolo as an African song, out of 22 schools they came out in second position.
- Western song, God beyond all praises, sung by 8 schools they took 4th
- Grade 3-4 – sung two songs
- Kumnandi esikoleni as an African song sung by 16 schools and they took up 2nd position
- Western song, stand by me sung by 6 schools and they took 1st position
Unfortunately only the 1st position could go to the next round and actually being the last round, the provincial round in Polokwane.
The 3-4 sung their winning song from the first round (stand by me) and they took 4th position.
In conclusion, it doesn’t matter what position you are given, what matters most is if you enjoyed. Those who wish to sing always find a song. It does not need to be perfect or technically correct to be magical. We sing from the heart that’s what matters. Even though it feels great to win, it also feels greater knowing u took part.
