ACKNOWLEDGING OUR CULTURE

ACKNOWLEDGING OUR CULTURE

By Zondi K.C

Culture is the fabric of our society, woven together by traditions, values, and beliefs that shape who we are. For the first time in 24 years since our school started, Holy Rosary took part in its first ever cultural event on the 18th of April 2024. This is an event taken part by schools surrounding Malamulele and under one circuit, Vhembe East. Although it was our first time taking part, we gave it our best not knowing the kind of competition we may encounter out there.

We must cherish and preserve our culture because it is the essence of who we are. It unites us in celebration during times of joy and provides solace during times of sorrow. Although it was a competition it was a time to connect with others and make new friends. There were a lot of celebrations to take part in our culture but they took it upon themselves to also add in some modern activities. Out of All the activities our school managed to come up first in; Mukhinyavezo, unprepared English speech, English poetry, Muchongolo, Tsonga female parade, Cartoon, C.drawing and Beadwork. We came second in; Kwasa-kwasa, Mapatsula and English essay writing.  And third in; Xingondlo, Female formal wear and pencil drawing.

We may not have come out in the top three for the other activities but at least we tried and gave it our best. A win for one is a win for all. We hope the winners go and represent us well in the next round too. Our culture will shape future generations and we hope they’ll want that too.
